Description: The SparkFun Mini Inventor’s Kit (SMIK) is a great way to get started with programming and hardware interaction with the Arduino programming language. This mini SIK includes everything you need to complete 8 circuits that will teach you how to blink an LED, read sensors, drive servos, and more. You don’t need any previous programming or electronics experience to use this kit.
The on-line SIK Digital Guide (in the Documents section below) contains step by step instructions of how to connect each circuit with the included parts. Full example code is provided and explained and even includes troubleshooting tips if something goes wrong.
The kit does not require any soldering and is recommended for beginners ages 10 and up. This miniature version of the SIK includes the first 8 experiments of our full sized SIK to make it cheaper and more practical for beginning and interested users.

It starts up and I can plug things into it and it makes those things start up.

This is a great affordable kit to get started with Arduino, especially if you have some prototyping experience. The online tutorials available through Sparkfun are most excellent and made this super easy to use!
The Mini Inventor’s kit is perfect for my Making Digital Lighting Controls class. This class is mostly focused on software. The kit has enough components for basic input and output which, along with an ethernet shield, is all that is needed for students to get hands on experience with various control protocols.
great value for a beginner in electronics. has lots of potential, a few buttons and such to start understanding how it all works. recommend it to first timers like myself. it was easy to get it up and going and to do the few sketches and hooking it up to sparkfun’s accelerometer was a sinch
