Description: This is a high quality switching ‘wall wart’ AC to DC 5V 2000mA USB Micro-B wall power supply manufactured specifically for SparkFun Electronics. These are switch mode power supplies which mean the output is regulated to 5V and the capable output current is much higher (2000mA).

These wall adapters are perfect for supplying power to many single-board computers like the pcDuino or the Raspberry Pi. Please note, this specific supply (5V/2A) is also FCC/CE certified and works with 100-240VAC inputs.

Customer Comments

  • This wall adapter doesn’t seem to be the “high quality” which it promises in the datasheet: the only review reports failure after one use, and the only comment on it (the other comments are questions) reports that it crashed the board it powered.

This shouldn’t surprise us: 6 dollar for a device which is produced in low quantities (it was custom made for SF) is just too low to get good quality. It rings the question why it was custom made. Devices like this are made by the millions (though they usually have a DC-plug instead of the USB). Anyway, I would be prepared to pay a couple dollars extra for a really reliable power supply.

Another peeve: apparently only available with a US power plug, so for the 230V ability I would have to pay extra for a power plug adapter anyway.

    Despite the 230V capability I can’t

    • Don’t always just go buy reviews. Especially for something this simple people rarely take the time to write a review saying “It works”. We’ve sold thousands of these and I see 2 complaints, that’s actually a pretty good record. As for the US plug, remember we are a US company and a large percentage of our customers are in the US. Every time we try carrying something with a different connector we end up discontinuing it because it doesn’t sell. These are so common now a days that people aren’t going to pay the international shipping fees to get a power supply when they can find one at their local store much easier.

  • Hi, This Wall adapter work with Raspberry Pi model B+? — Do you have heatsink for Raspberry Pi model B+?

  • I purchased this to use with a pcDuino Lite Wifi. It worked great for about 24 hours, and then crashed the board. I don’t think it does enough power filtering for the pcDuino’s which require a more stable power source than most.

  • Will it work for Raspberry Pi - Model B+ which requires 2Amps & datasheet of this adapter shows 2.2Amps Max. output?

  • Does this do the secret handshake to charge phones and tablets quickly?

  • Hi, This Wall adapter work with Arduino Yun?

    • yes :) 5V, micro USB connector, >= 500mA (the Yun has a PTC fuse to prevent overdrawing on standard computer ports)

Failed after one use

I plugged this into a Raspberry Pi B+ soon after I received it, and it worked fine.

A couple weeks later, I plugged it in again. No light, no power. Tried several outlets that I know work. Still no light, no power.

I tried a Belkin 5v 2.1A USB power supply with a micro USB cable. That is working great.

So I’m puzzled as to why the supply isn’t working, when it worked out of the box.

Just Right

Worked first time with my Raspberry Pi 2B John
