I'm excited to share with you all that the 2014 Open Hardware Summit will take place on September 30, 2014 and October 1, 2014 at the Rome Auditorium. I am always interested in alternative uses of open hardware- from kids building robots, to hackers making creative public installations and architectures making open source houses.. This year is no different, but what is different is we will be having a second day added to the Summit which will be focused on creative sharing, workshops and education.

As a result, I wanted to take this opportunity to let the SparkFun community know that the call for speakers for the 2014 Summit is currently open. The application deadline is May 25th. The complete call can be found and applied online at http://2014.oshwa.org/participate/

DAY 1 - The 2014 Summit is a two day event featuring speakers, keynotes, and workshops centered on the topic of the Open Source movement. This is the fifth year of the Summit and the first year it will be held outside the USA. Day ONE will be all about speakers.

DAY 2 - Thanks to community feedback, for the first time in addition to the first day of speakers, we will be introducing a second day to the Summit which is workshop-based and co-creative sharing centric.

The workshops and talks will range in subject from electronics and mechanics to related fields such as digital fabrication, fashion technology, self-quantification devices, and DIY bio. Proposed workshops can be of all levels and focuses, and can include but are not limited to, education, manufacturing, business models, design, business, electronics, hardware, and law. As a microcosm of the Open Source Hardware community, the Summit provides a friendly forum for discussion and desires to be as inclusive as possible.

We look forward to seeing you all there for another great Summit!
